MAYNOOTH

An existing joined pair of single vernacular cottages sit on the edge of a now disused country lane. The brief was to resurrect this aged and dilapidated pair into two contemporary homes for a young family and their parents.

The proposed extensions to the original retained structure are simple rectangular buildings designed to reflect and compliment the vernacular form and scale of the original building.   These are positioned in a fan formation around the original dwelling creating courtyards and gardens with links back to the original building via low glazed connecting links.

The extensions sit on shallow brick podiums and are clad in painted black timber. roofs are finished in black standing seam zone, punctuated with large roof lights.

The two new homes are created within this cluster of pitched roof elements that reference vernacular cluster development.
